Danville Illinois was founded in 1827. The downtown area in the center
of the city dates to this period. On the northwest corner of the
original square was the Plaza hotel and the Law offices of Abraham
Lincoln and his partner Ward Lamon. Today Historic Downtown
Danville still house the offices of many attorneys near the Federal
and County Courthouses. And much more....
Our Vision Statement
Downtown is the heart of a proud and progressive community where
neighborhoods support dynamic business-filled storefronts, financial
offices, cultural and entertainment facilities, centers of learning
and government service centers. The downtown is the focal point for
community activities where people of every age come together in a
positive way. Downtown provides a welcoming, attractive, safe and
friendly environment with well-maintained and landscaped public
amenities reflecting community pride. Our history is energetically
celebrated by revitalizing and building upon our historic
architecture, our relationship with the river and the natural
environment. A unified and focused partnership of government,
business, and residents ensures the attainment and maintenance of
this Vision for our downtown for future generations.
